Square Hay Baler

Square hay bales are not really "square", they are rectangular. They are small and light enough for a man to pick one up without the help of a machine. |  |

A tractor pulls this baler across a field of cut grass or alfalfa. After the baler scoops the grass in, it compresses it into a rectangular shape and ties it with a string. The baler then drops the bale onto the ground. The farmer will pick up the bale later.
