Jays, magpies and crows are all in the same family. These Jays don't have a crest like a Blue Jay has. They like to live in areas where scrub oak grows.
Thanks to one of our viewers for writing to us and identifying these birds as Pinyon Jays.
These jays were really hungry. At one time there were 12 birds in the feeder. When the jays want to eat from the bird feeder all the little birds fly away to safety.
Their flights are usually short and end in a sweeping glide. This bird is flaring its wings as it comes in for a landing.
