The rodeo is open to contestants anywhere in the world and is operated on a strictly non-profit basis. Contestants must be 8 years old and not more than 18 on December 31 of the current rodeo season. Contestants compete in two age groups - Juniors 8 through 13 and Seniors 14 through 18. There is an entry fee for all events and contestants are required to pay for insurance unless they are covered by belonging to the National Britches Association. All awards are made possible by local businesses and friends of the Western Slope Little Britches Rodeo.
Contestants may enter all events of their choice in their age group. Points are given to winners in each event and counted for the top awards. Points must be earned in at least two events to qualify for the top award. There are no cash awards given in Little Britches competition. All of the officials in the arena are volunteer helpers who give their time to this youth activity. A doctor, ambulance and first aid attendants are on hand for each show.
