Cattle are "ruminants" because they have stomachs with four compartments.  The compartments are called "rumens".

Hay and grass

The cows always have to be fed. There are no days off on the farm. Terry gets the hay bales for the cattle. The bales of hay are too heavy to move without a tractor.

The cows won't eat the hay if it gets dirty.

Putting the hay in a feeder keeps it from being stepped on, and keeps it clean.
